There are multiple photo categories available for your GBP photos, and it's not always clear what's the best descriptor for a photo. Following Google's recommendation for adding category-specific photos is considered best practice. Businesses with photos tend to see an increase in requests for driving directions and more clicks through to their websites than those without.
Please note that your photo should be in focus and well lit, and have no significant alterations or excessive use of filters. In other words, the image should represent reality.
The different types of photos you can add to your business listing:
Profile photo:
Your profile picture is something that is supposed to help people recognize your brand across Google. This should be different from Cover Photos and, as such, is not considered a "preferred photo".
Google suggests a picture of a product or service you offer. If you don’t offer products or easily recognizable services, you can choose something that relates to your business. For instance, LocalClarity's profile photo is our icon:
Cover Photos:
This automatically sets that photo as your listing’s preferred photo. This doesn’t guarantee that it'll populate as the first image for your business, but it does tell Google you prefer to display this photo.
This could be a business picture of the staff, a staff member at work with a customer, an exterior photo, an interior photo, etc.
Logo photos:
Your logo is typically a 250 x 250 pixels version of your business logo. If your logo is horizontal, you may need to use a picture-editing website to resize or reformat your logo.
Exterior photos: Exterior photos help customers recognize your business as they approach from different directions. Google recommends at least 3 great exterior photos to help customers recognize your business.
Interior photos:
Interior photos help your customers get a feel for the ambiance and decor of your business. Google recommends at least 3 great interior photos to show customers what your business feels like inside.
Product photos:
Great photos of representative or popular products give customers a better understanding of the kinds of goods you offer. This could be an image of a display case or an aisle photo that clearly shows products and brands that you sell.
Photos at Work:
These help customers quickly understand the type of work you do.
Common areas:
Photos of your common areas help attract customers who are planning business or leisure travel.
Rooms:
Customers rely heavily on photos of guest rooms when deciding where to book their next hotel for business or leisure.
Team photos:
Photos of team members at work or in a group setting.
Photo guidelines:
Your photos will look best on Google if they meet the following standards:
Format: JPG or PNG.
Size: Between 10 KB and 5 MB.
Minimum resolution: 720 px tall, 720 px wide.
Quality:The photo should be in focus and well lit, and have no significant alterations or excessive use of filters. In other words, the image should represent reality.
